Maltings Process Operator
We’re looking for a hands on, reliable person to train as a Maltings Process Operator in our historic maltings business.
by French & Jupps
At French & Jupps we have spent over two centuries perfecting the craft and science of roasted malt and this September we’re proud to see our malt at the heart of a brand new Extra Special Bitter (ESB), brewed by our friends at Orbit Beers in south London specially for National Cask Ale Week.
Cask Ale Week is an annual celebration of Britain’s national drink — cask beer. Each year, pubs and breweries across the country get involved by organising events and activities to promote real ale to a wider audience. In 2026, Cask Ale Week runs from Thursday 17th to Sunday 27th September, and this year we’re proud to be part of it through our collaboration with Orbit.
For this collaboration ESB, our team supplied Orbit’s brewers with our roasted Crystal ‘caramel malt’ and Chocolate Malt, built on a Maris Otter base. It’s exactly the kind of beer where our roasted malt specialism shines in cask ale. The sweet characteristics of the Crystal Malt brings depth and sweetness, while a careful touch of chocolate malt adds a gentle roasted character and colour, without overpowering the beer. The result is a rich, amber coloured cask ale called South London Orbit Bitter boasting a malt forward character that classic British ESBs are known for, rounded off with traditional British hops for a fruity, earthy finish.
The beer has been brewed with input from several of south London’s best loved cask ale venues, and it’ll be pouring at each of them throughout Cask Ale Week:
Orbit Beers’ own Taproom
The Shirker’s Rest
The Green Goddess
The Rusty Bucket, Eltham
It’s a lovely example of what Cask Ale Week is all about, breweries, pubs and quality raw materials to celebrate cask beer and get people through the door to try it.
Look out for the beer at Orbit Beers’ Taproom and collaborating pubs from 16th September, and raise a glass to cask ale during Cask Ale Week 2026!
