Job Overview

At French & Jupps, we are a family owned business and proud to be one of the oldest manufacturing companies in Britain, crafting high quality roasted malts that have been supplied to the brewing and food industries internationally since 1689.

We’re looking for a hands on, reliable person to train as a Maltings Process Operator in our historic maltings business. You will start onboarding in the warehouse and progress through our full process of steeping, germination, and roasting, learning a skilled craft from the ground up. No malting experience is needed, all we ask is that you bring some warehouse experience, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

Over time, you’ll become an “all-rounder” with a full understanding of our manufacturing systems and production processes, from goods in to finished roasted malt, with real long term career progression in a close knit, small team, where your hard work won’t get lost in the crowd.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse & Stock (from day one)
• Pack and load outgoing finished products.
• Operate our stock systems to move materials between production and storage bins
• Operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, once trained and authorised.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with stock counts.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safety requirements across warehouse and factory areas.

Malting: Steeping, Germination & Roasting (as you progress)
• Learn to intake and store barley.
• Learn to manage the steeping and germination processes, monitoring conditions against quality specifications.
• Operate and monitor roasting equipment, controlling temperature, time and process parameters.
• Handle malt safely through loading, transfer and cooling, maintaining full product traceability.
• Carry out routine quality checks, record production data accurately and report process or equipment issues.
• Clean and maintain roasting and production equipment to high food safety and hygiene standards.
• Build an understanding of our quality specifications, working closely with our lab team.

Quality, Safety & Teamwork
• Follow food safety, quality assurance and traceability procedures.
• Comply with Health & Safety policies, safe systems of work and risk assessments.
• Work collaboratively across warehouse and production teams; suggest ways to improve efficiency, safety or quality.

What We’re Looking For

Essential
• Warehouse experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Availability for flexible shift patterns, and daily onsite working. This is not a hybrid working position.
• Computer literacy.
• Reliable and physically fit, comfortable with manual handling throughout the day.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail and a genuine willingness to learn.
• Able to follow instructions and procedures accurately; work well independently and in a team.

Desirable
• Forklift experience.
• Awareness of stock control or Health & Safety procedures in an industrial setting.

What We Offer
• Permanent, full time role.
• Structured training and a genuine path to becoming a qualified Maltster.
• A supportive, friendly team and long term job security in an essential industry
• Pension and life insurance
• Competitive salary
