We consider it a distinct privilege to host the Brewing History Society (BHS), founded in 1972. This visit allows us to share our heritage with a group committed to promoting historic research, documenting historic maltings, and encouraging the exchange of information about the history of brewing (both in the UK and internationally), especially the essential role of malt and roasted malt.
The visit, which took place on October 28, 2026, was the first from the Brewing History Society since 2013. This marked a twelve-year gap, and the opportunity was taken to re-establish connections with a vibrant networking session, fostering new connections and rekindling old acquaintances.
For the day, we curated a display of historic artefacts from our extensive archive, offering a tangible link to our enduring legacy. Among these treasures was our meticulously maintained malt ledger, a remarkable document dating back to 1870, providing a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of our maltsters craft and the demands of the brewing industry through the ages.
The BHS guests were then invited to embark on a comprehensive tour of our Georgian-era maltings to witness first-hand the enduring traditions and methods that have defined our operations since our relocation from Kew Bridge to Stanstead Abbotts. It is within these historic walls that French & Jupps has handcrafted our roasted malts for centuries, a testament to our unwavering commitment to quality and heritage.
The visit concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque from the Brewing History Society, acknowledging the significance of our maltings and the enduring contribution we make to the brewing world.
French & Jupps extends its sincere gratitude to the Brewing History Society for their visit and for their continued dedication to preserving and celebrating the rich heritage of brewing. We look forward to welcoming them back in the future.
